Information

August 2010 On-Line Interactive Virtual Environment (OLIVE) is a powerful, dynamic software platform for development and deployment of customized, private, secure virtual worlds where users collaborate, plan, train, rehearse and operate over computer networks using a video game-like 3-D user interface. This video shows a virtual emergency operations center. Often called war or situation rooms, these virtual centers allow representatives from different branches of government and business to collectively monitor, assess, and respond to events. A media dashboard allows different panels of information such as video feeds, documents, or monitoring applications to be assembled together and changed on the fly to assess an event. Participants using OLIVE can log in anywhere using a laptop and network connection, and are represented as avatars (realistic computer generated human characters). All users can talk to each other through their avatars as if they are co-located.
